The Opportunity

India is promoting entrepreneurship through its Make in India and Zero-Defect programs. The 12th national budget focused on entrepreneurship by committing INR 100,000 million to catalyze and attract private capital for equity, soft loans and other risk capital for start-up companies. Several nationwide incubation and accelerator programs have been initiated. Indian clean energy sector alone is a $US20 billion opportunity.

It has the potential to generate 10 million jobs in India by 2025 and is witnessing the emergence of energy entrepreneurs, who are ready with innovations in energy. The Indian startup ecosystem has really taken off and come into its own—driven by factors such as massive funding, consolidation activities, evolving technology and a burgeoning domestic market.

The numbers are telling—from 3,100 startups in 2014 to a projection of more than 11,500 by 2020, this is certainly not a passing trend. It’s a revolution. And it’s going to change the way the markets are working today in India.

Why Eco-Entrepreneurship?

Eco-Entrepreneurs are entrepreneurs whose business efforts are not only driven by profit, but also by a concern for the environment. Eco-entrepreneurship is about developing community oriented and market-based solutions by reducing consumption of resources, putting available resources to the best use and promoting products and services that recycle and reuse the resources. Eco entrepreneurship essentially demonstrates the concept of circular economy. Given the threat to the very sustainability of the planet, there is an urgent need to promote eco-entrepreneurship.
